Plan for overnight full closures and lane and ramp restrictions on Interstate 17 next week as the Improvement Project between Anthem Way and Sunset Point continues. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists to allow extra travel time and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the closures and restrictions below are in place from Tuesday, Jan. 3, to Saturday, Jan. 7:
Controlled Rock Blasting Schedule – Expect delays of at least one hour and backups of about 2 miles
- I-17 will be closed in both directions between Bumble Bee Road and Sunset Point [mileposts 248-253] from 10 to 11 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, for controlled rock blasting. The on-ramp to southbound I-17 from Sunset Point, and the on-ramp to northbound I-17 from Bumble Bee Road will be closed at the same time.
- Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane [left lane closed] between Bumble Bee Road and Sunset Point [mileposts 253-248] from 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, to 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, for controlled rock blasting.
Northbound Lane Restrictions Next Week
- Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane [alternating left- and right-lane closures] between Anthem Way and New River Road [mileposts 229-233] nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 3, to the morning of Friday, Jan. 6, for temporary striping and the placement of a temporary concrete barrier.
- The northbound I-17 off-ramp at New River Road [exit 232] will be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 3, to the morning of Thursday, Jan. 5, for temporary striping. Drivers who need to access New River Road during these times can exit at Anthem Way [exit 229] and take the frontage road on the east side of I-17 north to New River Road, or pass New River Road and exit at Table Mesa Road [exit 236] and proceed southbound on I-17.
- Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane [left lane closed] between New River and Table Mesa roads [mileposts 232-237] nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 4, to the morning of Friday, Jan. 6, for earthwork.
- The northbound on-ramp at New River Road [exit 232] will be closed from 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, to 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, for temporary striping. Drivers who need to access northbound I-17 from New River Road can take the frontage road on the east side of I-17 south to Anthem Way to access the interstate.
Southbound Lane Restrictions Next Week
- Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane [left lane closed] between Sunset Point and Bumble Bee Road [mileposts 253-248] nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 3, to the morning of Saturday, Jan. 7, for earthwork and controlled rock blasting.
- Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane [right lane closed] near Bumble Bee Road [mileposts 249-247] nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 4, to the morning of Saturday, Jan. 7, for earthwork.
- Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane [right lane closed] between Black Canyon City and Table Mesa Road [mileposts 240-237] nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 4, to the morning of Saturday, Jan. 7, for earthwork.
- Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane [left lane closed] between Table Mesa and New River roads [mileposts 236-232] nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 4, to the morning of Saturday, Jan. 7, for earthwork.
- Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane [alternating left- and right-lane closures] between New River Road and Anthem Way [mileposts 233-229] nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 4, to the morning of Saturday, Jan. 7, for temporary striping.
